Asda Supermarket, Frome

A community of water voles had to be temporarily rehoused as part of a flood alleviation scheme on the Rodden Brook near Frome.  We shifted the alignment of  the stream to create sufficient space for a new foodstore and to accommodate floodwater.  It gave us the perfect opportunity to create a new riparian habitat, wet and dry meadows, woodland and to increase river flora and fauna. The Environmental Statement demonstrated that our proposals would be more sympathetic to wildlife and landscape character than the previous channelised scheme.  The area is now managed by volunteers and is once again home to watervoles, as well as otters and water birds.
