Historic Private House in Somerset

The impressive facade of this U-shaped, 14th century home was spoiled by car parking.  We rerouted the approach to the house and resited the parking to claim the sheltered south-facing space as a welcoming entrance and family entertainment space. Classically-inspired parterres and a formal lily pond define a series of garden rooms for eating, sitting and gathering, softened by contemporary herbaceous planting.  A new tennis court has been concealed near the house behind existing mature hedges.
